Viva Republica, the operator of the financial super app "Toss," has signed an MOU with Seoul City to support individuals with borderline intellectual functioning.

As part of this initiative, Toss has donated ₩100 million from the proceeds of its financial guidebook, The Money Book: Guide to Shape Your Future (The Money Book), published in May. Recognizing that individuals with borderline intellectual functioning often face gaps in social support, Toss aims to provide structured assistance to address their needs.
Of the ₩100 million donation, ₩70 million was allocated to the Seoul Borderline Intellectual Functioning Continuing Education Support Center (MIM Center) to help establish the "Slow Growth Dream Space." This space includes art therapy and counseling rooms to provide emotional and psychological stability while fostering creativity. The remaining ₩30 million was donated to the Youth Mungan Social Cooperative, which will improve two locations of "Youth Mungan Restaurant" into workplaces tailored for individuals with borderline intellectual functioning.
To further expand its support efforts, Toss attended “MIM Center Hwaljak Day” on December 24, where it officially signed an MOU with Seoul City to collaborate on lifelong education initiatives for individuals with borderline intellectual functioning. The signing ceremony was attended by Toss CEO Seunggun Lee, Toss CX CEO Heejin Kang, Seoul City Mayor Se-hoon Oh, Lifelong Learning Bureau Director Jong-won Koo, MIM Center Head Kyo Bong Lee, and Chairman of Youth Mungan Social Cooperative Mun-su Lee.

After the signing, attendees visited job preparation support programs for young adults and financial education sessions for parents of individuals with borderline intellectual functioning, reaffirming their commitment to collaboration. The financial education sessions were conducted by Toss CX, Toss’ dedicated customer service affiliate. Throughout 2024, Toss CX has actively participated in various support programs for individuals with borderline intellectual functioning, including running a pilot job experience program for young adults with borderline intellectual functioning, co-organized by MIM Center, the Korea Youth Foundation, and the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities; a financial education session for primary caregivers; and setting up awareness-raising event booths.
"Through this agreement, we will actively support individuals with borderline intellectual functioning in gaining independence and achieving growth beyond the social support gap,” said Seunggun Lee, CEO of Toss. “Toss will continue to evolve beyond financial services, embracing marginalized communities and fulfilling its social responsibility as a company."
Toss plans to expand support programs, including financial education for individuals with borderline intellectual functioning, while also exploring practical solutions to assist financially marginalized communities. Additionally, a second round of donations from The Money Book proceeds is planned to continue support for these groups.

모바일 금융 서비스 ‘토스’를 운영하는 비바리퍼블리카(대표 이승건, 이하 토스)가 LG유플러스(대표 황현식)와 ‘AI 기술 제휴’ 업무협약을 체결했다고 22일 밝혔다.
이번 업무협약으로 양사는 AI 기술을 제휴하고 전략적 제휴 마케팅을 위해 상호 협력키로 했다. LG유플러스의 AI 기술 익시(ixi)를 활용해 제작한 콘텐츠를 토스 앱에서 제공하는 것이 협약의 골자다.
이를 통해 토스는 금융 서비스에 AI를 접목시켜 새롭고 차별화된 고객 경험을 제공하고, LG유플러스는 익시를 활용한 다양한 콘텐츠로 마케팅과 브랜딩 측면에서 긍정적인 효과를 기대할 수 있게 됐다.
협약에 앞서 양사는 지난 9월부터 토스 앱을 통해 AI 콘텐츠의 선호도와 효과를 파악하기 위한 A/B 테스트를 진행한 바 있다. A/B 테스트는 다양한 시안 중 최적안을 선정하는 방법 중 하나로, 사용자를 두 집단으로 나눠 각기 다른 시안을 랜덤으로 보여주고 반응을 분석한다. 양사는 이러한 분석 결과를 향후 진행하는 공동 마케팅에 반영할 계획이다.
양사는 익시와 토스의 IP를 접목하는 방안도 논의하고 있으며, 향후 토스의 B2B 서비스에도 익시의 기능을 적용할 수 있도록 지속 협력할 방침이다.
한편 전날 오후 LG유플러스 용산사옥에서 열린 업무협약식에는 토스 이승건 대표, 김형빈 광고부문장(부사장)과 LG유플러스 정수헌 컨슈머부문장(부사장), 정혜윤 마케팅그룹장(상무), 한영섭 AI테크랩장(담당), 김희진 통합브랜드마케팅팀장 등 주요 관계자가 참석했다.
협약식에서 토스 이승건 대표는 “LG유플러스와 협력해 토스 앱 사용자 경험을 한층 더 발전시킬 수 있게 됐다”며 “전 연령대를 아우르는 폭넓은 사용자 기반의 토스와 탁월한 AI 기술력을 보유한 LG유플러스가 새로운 디지털 혁신의 역사를 함께 써 내려가기를 기대한다”고 말했다.
LG유플러스 정수헌 부사장은 “토스와의 협력으로 또 하나의 AI 마케팅 선도 사례를 구축하게 되어 의미가 크다”며 “금융업에 디지털 혁신을 불러일으킨 토스와 디지털 온리(Digital Only) 세대인 ‘잘파(Zalpha)’ 세대 고객에 기존에 접해보지 못한 차별화된 디지털 경험을 제공하겠다”고 말했다.

비바리퍼블리카(토스)의 결제 단말기 제조 및 결제 솔루션 공급 자회사 토스플레이스(대표 최지은)가 하나은행(은행장 이승열)과 ‘신규 창업자 결제 단말기 구입 지원’ 업무협약을 체결했다고 27일 밝혔다.

이 협약으로 양사는 토스 단말기를 구입하고 가맹점 매출대금 결제계좌를 하나은행 계좌로 등록한 신규 창업자에게 하나은행 민생금융지원금 5만원을 지급하는 지원사업을 다음 달 1일부터 시작한다. 신청 시점 기준으로 사업자등록증상 개업일이 3개월 이내인 개인사업자는 하나은행 모바일앱 ‘하나원큐’ 또는‘하나원큐기업’의 개인사업자 전용 채널 ‘사장님ON’에서 지원금을 신청할 수 있다.
이를 위해 토스플레이스는 신규 창업자를 모집하고, 지원 사업에 참여를 희망하는 토스플레이스 파트너스(대리점)를 대상으로 교육을 실시한다. 하나은행은 지원금 신청 페이지를 개발하고 운영하며 신규 창업자에게 지원금을 지급한다. 협약을 통해 토스플레이스는 토스 단말기 보급을 확대하고 하나은행은 가맹점 매출대금 입금계좌 이용 고객을 확대하는 효과도 낼 것으로 기대된다.
토스플레이스 최지은 대표는 “신규 창업자가 초기 부담을 덜고 사업에 집중할 수 있도록 응원하기 위해 이번 업무협약을 체결했다”며 “토스플레이스는 자영업자가 매장 운영 효율성을 높이고 매출을 증대할 수 있는 다양한 솔루션을 토스 단말기를 통해 꾸준히 제공하겠다”고 말했다.
한편 토스플레이스 가맹점 수는 토스 단말기 출시 1년 7개월 만인 9월 기준 6만개를 돌파했다. 결제 단말기 시장에서 유례가 없는 빠른 속도다. 신규 가맹점 모집 시장에서의 점유율은 15%에 달한다.
