- Switching bills, certificates, and other documents to digital formats — 38% increase in issuance compared to 2023
- Protecting 22,000 trees — saving approximately 630 tons of carbon and 2.2 billion liters of water
Viva Republica, the operator of the financial super app “Toss,” announced that it issued 220 million electronic documents in 2024, significantly reducing paper usage. This represents a 38% increase from 2023, reflecting the rapid normalization of digital document use in everyday life.

Toss offers a variety of essential documents, such as bills, notices, and certificates, as electronic documents through its app. Users can access administrative documents like resident registration copies and national health insurance records, as well as traffic fines and penalty notices, anytime and anywhere, without paper, using services such as mobile bills, GoodPy, and public e-documents.
The 220 million electronic documents issued in 2024 equate to approximately 220 million sheets of paper, or around 1,100 tons, based on an A4 sheet weighing 5g. Considering that one 30-year-old tree is needed to produce 10,000 sheets of paper, this translates to the protection of approximately 22,000 trees. Additionally, it's estimated that this effort helped avoid around 630 tons of carbon emissions (2.88g per sheet) and saved approximately 2.2 billion liters of water (10 liters per sheet), which are typically consumed during paper production.

Toss affiliates are also actively contributing to reducing paper usage. Toss Payments, the company’s payment gateway (PG) affiliate, has transitioned most of its merchant contract processes to an electronic contract system. Since its introduction in 2022 up to February 2025, about 92% of all contracts were issued electronically, saving around 7 million sheets of paper. Similarly, Toss Place, Toss’ subsidiary providing payment terminals and POS solutions, has replaced around 150,000 receipts with electronic documents over the past two years since launching its terminal in 2023.
“Transitioning to electronic documents is a small yet meaningful change," a Toss representative said. “We will continue developing services that enhance user convenience while contributing to the protection of our planet.”
