Viva Republica, the operator of the financial super app "Toss," held the "Toss 10 Year Anniversary, A New Beginning" press conference on the morning of the 26th at Anderson C in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, to mark the 10th anniversary of its app launch. The event highlighted the company's achievements over the past decade and shared its vision and direction for the future.

“The past 10 years of Toss have been a journey of inventing innovation, spreading it, and accelerating the transformation of the entire industry,” Toss CEO Seunggun Lee said. “The innovations created by Toss have not only driven our own growth but have also encouraged other industry players to join in, reshaping the market landscape.”

Toss took its first step toward innovation in 2015 by launching a money transfer service that did not require an accredited certificate. This feature soon became the industry standard. Toss also revolutionized the user experience with patented ₩1 authentication, a simplified sign-up process, and other improvements. Notably, it was the first in South Korea to introduce free credit score inquiries. As of February 2025, Toss has more than 28 million users, continuously delivering innovative solutions tailored to customer needs.

At the press conference, Toss outlined its future business plans under three key themes: "Beyond Finance into Everyday Life," "Beyond Online into Offline," and "Beyond Korea into the Global World."
Beyond Finance into Everyday Life
Toss aims to evolve beyond a financial super app into an “everyday super app.” To achieve this, the company has chosen "openness" as its core strategy. Instead of solely providing proprietary services, Toss plans to integrate offerings from partners and startups into its platform. Additionally, the company will share its user experience innovation system and market expertise—accumulated over the past decade—with businesses that need them. Furthermore, Toss announced a ₩1 trillion startup support initiative over the next five years. Through active investments and marketing support for promising startups, Toss aims to foster the startup ecosystem.
Beyond Online into Offline
Toss is also accelerating offline payment innovation. Toss expects Facepay, which recently entered the offline payment market through partnerships with South Korea’s three major convenience store chains, to accelerate the arrival of a wallet-free payment era. One key driver of this shift is the rapid adoption of Toss Place payment terminals, which have surpassed 100,000 merchant locations as of February 2025. To further expand into the offline space, Toss announced investments in security system development, international standards and data protection certifications, and enhanced customer protection and compensation policies.
Beyond Korea into the Global World
Toss also outlined its global expansion vision, aiming to rapidly scale its financial super app innovation—a model rarely seen worldwide. The company’s goal is to transform Toss into a global service, with half of its users being international within the next five years. Toss CEO Seunggun Lee expressed his ambition, stating, “Toss will become the financial super app for people around the world.”
Meanwhile, the press conference was held at "Square of Toss," a dedicated space created to celebrate Toss’s 10-year anniversary. The venue will be open for five days until March 2, featuring an exhibition, "The Journey of 10," where visitors can explore and experience Toss’s impact over the past decade. The space also includes the "Financial Planning Lounge," where visitors can assess their financial habits and receive personalized financial insights; a "Library" featuring a curated selection of 100 books to inspire new beginnings; a "Gift Shop" offering 10th-anniversary merchandise; and a café, recreating Toss’ in-house Coffee Silo experience. From February 28 to March 2, a series of talk sessions will be held, featuring various speakers who will share insights to help people plan changes in their financial lives and overall lifestyle.

The service launched in September 2020 and provides article-format content on topics such as loans, savings, investments, daily life, real estate, and more. It features simple explanations of financial information frequently asked about in daily life. As a result, it has reached 800 million views in just four years and five months.
Some of the most popular articles last year include “How much do you need to quit your job right now? 1B vs. 10B,” “When did people start giving New Year's money?”, and “What’s the best way to split the bill?”. The article with the highest total views received 4.82 million views.
Today’s Tip provides quizzes, horoscopes, and card news every morning, which has contributed to the service’s popularity by increasing accessibility to articles. For example, users can take a quiz like “Do you have to pay income tax on money earned abroad?” which then leads them to the article “Do you have to pay income taxes on overseas income?” once they answer.
The total number of subscribers who receive Today’s Tip regularly has surpassed 7.9 million. Subscribers are spread evenly across age groups: 1.23 million teenagers (15.6%), 1.65 million in their 20s (20.9%), 1.27 million in their 30s (16.1%), 1.51 million in their 40s (19.1%), and 1.49 million in their 50s (18.9%). Subscribers aged 60 and above reached 740,000, showing a broad subscription base across all age groups.
“Under Toss’ mission to create a simple and practical financial environment, we provide content that users can easily understand and apply in their daily lives,” a Toss representative said. “We will continue to offer timely and diverse topics that resonate with all age groups.”

Viva Republica, the operator of the financial super app "Toss," announced the launch of “Facepay.” Toss Facepay is a service that allows users to make payments using facial recognition technology after registering their face and a payment method in advance.

Starting in March, Facepay will be available for use at select CU and GS25 locations. It will also be available at 7-Eleven stores in the second quarter of 2025. The system works by scanning a user’s face with a special device installed at checkout counters.
Toss Facepay is characterized by its high accuracy and speed. With 99.99% accuracy, it is able to verify faces in just a second. Users only need to register their face once in the Toss app, after which they can make payments using their preferred method—credit card, debit card, or bank account.
The service also features enhanced security measures. All Facepay data is encrypted and securely managed on a separate server. The liveness detection technology screens for fake faces such as images or videos during the facial recognition process. The Fraud Detection System (FDS) also runs 24/7 to detect and immediately respond to fraudulent transactions.
Toss Facepay will start with convenience stores, with plans to expand to other partnered merchants such as movie theaters and cafés.
“With its fast and secure authentication technology, Facepay will provide users with an innovative payment experience,” a Toss representative said. “We aim to make facial recognition payments a norm by continuously expanding the number of merchants accepting Facepay.”
Meanwhile, ahead of the official launch, Toss, CU, and GS25 have begun internal testing at select stores as of today, February 12. Toss is conducting preliminary testing of facial authentication for office access and in-house cafés to ensure stable service operation.

Toss and BNK Kyongnam Bank signed a business agreement in November to introduce credit loan products for early-career individuals. After approximately 3 months of collaboration, the two companies launched the loan product.
The “Rookie Unsecured Loan” is an exclusive product available only through Toss. It is designed for salaried workers and civil servants with work experience between 1 and 12 months. Eligible applicants must be between 18 and 59, with an annual salary of ₩25 million and under. Users can borrow up to ₩45 million. The product lowers eligibility barriers by easing work experience and income requirements, making it accessible to those who have recently entered the workforce.
This loan also accommodates thin-filers by utilizing Toss Score, an alternative credit assessment model developed by Toss. Toss Score enables precise risk evaluation by analyzing factors such as consumers’ assets and financial habits, even for individuals with limited financial history. Additionally, applicants can easily apply entirely online for the loan through the Toss app without installing a separate app or signing up for a separate account, maximizing convenience for customers.

The event allows participants to explore accessibility features by swiping their mobile screens to follow the sounds to find a constellation and then donate via Toss’ simple payment service, Tosspay. The event runs until December 25 at 11:59 PM in honor of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event was designed to raise awareness of screen readers, an accessibility feature for users with visual impairments. Screen readers convert on-screen text into voice, with Apple’s iOS version known as VoiceOver.
When users participate in the event, a voice guides them to swipe their fingers across the screen to find their zodiac constellation. Additionally, an alternative visual mode is available for users with hearing impairments. After selecting a constellation, users can learn more about the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the screen reader feature.
If a user wishes to donate, they can contribute from ₩1,000 up to ₩2 million per transaction, with no limit on the number of donations. Donors can also request a receipt for tax deductions. All proceeds will be donated to UNICEF Korea and the Community Chest of Korea to support children with disabilities. Both organizations will disclose how the funds are collected and used transparently.
"This event was designed to help all users become more familiar with accessibility features like screen readers,” a Toss representative said. “Toss is committed to creating an inclusive mobile financial environment where everyone has equal access to services, and we will continue these efforts."
Meanwhile, Toss has hosted annual year-end donation events since 2022. Last year’s “Santa Trials” drew 390,000 participants, raising ₩8.3 billion in donations, which were distributed to three organizations.
